Getting your Google Business Profile right

For many local businesses, the Google listing is seen more often than the website. Here's what to get right.

When people search for a business nearby, the first thing they often see is the Google Business Profile, not the website.

The basics

  • Name, address and phone exactly as they appear on your website and signage
  • The right primary category, plus any additional ones that apply
  • Opening hours, including special hours for holidays
  • A website link that goes to a page that works on a phone

The details that build trust

  • Recent, well-lit photos of the place, the team and the work
  • Services or menu items filled in
  • Replies to reviews, both good and bad, written politely and briefly

What to avoid

Don't stuff keywords into your business name, don't create duplicate listings, and never buy or fake reviews. These can get a listing suspended.
