It depends on the source. Photos straight out of a phone camera typically drop 60–80% at the default quality with no visible difference. Images that are already optimised may only shrink a few percent — the tool tells you the exact saving before you download.

Lossy mode re-encodes the image and discards detail your eye is unlikely to notice, which gives much smaller files. Lossless mode keeps every pixel identical and only removes overhead such as metadata, so savings are smaller but the image is mathematically unchanged.
